IMPORTANCE OF EDUCATION

Education is important from various points of view. Its field of activity is so wide that all activities and experiences are embraced in its sphere of work. Essentially, it is a process of development, development of the latent inherent capacities of a child to the fullest extent. It sublimates the animal basic instincts in a child to socially useful activities, habits of thinking and behaving. It inculcates in a child higher moral and social ideals together with spiritual values, so that he is able to form a strong character useful to his own-self and the society of which he is a integral part. Further, education meets the immediate needs of a child and also prepares him for his future life. It culturises the child promoting social and refined patterns of behavior. Not only this, it develops all his intellectual and emotional powers, so that he is able to meet the problems of life squarely and solve them successfully. It also develops the social qualities of service, tolerance, cooperation, fellow-feeling, inspiring the child to lay down all even his lire for the glory and prosperity of his country. Last but not the least, education infuses in the child a spirit of dynamic citizenship which eggs him on in the service of his nation keeping into consideration the international understanding and well being of humanity as a whole.

AIMS OF EDUCATION

If has been rightly observed by Nursery Teacher Training that without the knowledge of aims the education is like a sailor who does not know his goal or his destination and the child is like a rudderless vessel which will be drifted along somewhere ashore. According to ECCE, “Education is purposeful and ethical activity, hence it is unthinkable without aims.” Thus, it is very essential to have the knowledge of the aims of education.

Every activity is followed by some or the other purpose. So far as the aims of education are concerned, they mainly concern the educator, the politician and the state. To be very honest the aims prescribed by these agencies are not beneficial to the society or nation as to the people other than the educator himself. These peoples are more concerned with the needs of the society. Conventional aims are fruitless and the education with these aims draws the fresh generation away from society. Educational is a continual process and in this continuity it faces newer and newer situations and so it is not justified to prescribe certain aims for ever, without any consideration of the present. Politicians and state workers are hardly in touch with the soul of society. They are more concerned with the state affairs and political problems. The educator can have better view of society if he is interested in social welfare. He must never prescribe any particular aim. The aim of the education should be dynamic and changeable with the changing situations of the society or the nation Aimless education is not the education in the real sense of the term. The educand do not benefit from such an education. Not only this, the educator himself is not certain what to give and how to give. Therefore, it is not only desirable but essential to have certain beneficial aim to hack the teaching.
