How is Self-Confidence Initially Developed

Many factors affect the development of self-confidence. Parents’ attitudes are crucial to children’s feelings about themselves, particularly in children’s early years. When parents provide acceptance, children receive a solid foundation for good feelings about themselves, if one or both parents are excessively critical or demanding, or if they are overprotective and discourage moves toward independence, children may come to believe they are incapable, inadequate, or inferior. However, if parents encourage children’s moves toward self-reliance and accept and love their children when they make mistakes, children will learn to accept themselves and will be on their way to developing self-confidence. Surprisingly, lack of self-confidence is not necessarily related to lack of ability. Instead it is often the result of focusing too much on the unrealistic expectations or standards of others, especially parents and society. Friends’ influences can be as powerful as or more powerful than those of parents and society in shaping feelings about one’s self.

According to diploma in teacher training students in their college years re-examine values and develop their own identifies and thus are particularly vulnerable to the influence of friends. Educational and career counselling has become increasingly important over the last _ teachers. This remained as a low priority for two evident reasons: first, there was lack of awareness amongst the teachers, students and parents about the significance of career counselling; and, second, the scarcity of resources didn’t permit schools and policymakers to consider it as a priority. However according to early childhood education training, with increasing literacy rates and more choices of educational institutions and careers becoming available, people’s interest and realization to understand the role of educational and career counselling in shaping students future is also augmenting. It is because of their indelible impact on students that teachers play increasingly important roles in influencing students’ choices and decisions for their future careers. The practice of career counselling has been derived from principles of career theory and counselling theory. In recent times, the fields of both career and counselling theory have undergone considerable change. Systems theory has been proposed as a potential overarching framework for dealing with many issues in human behaviour.
